Who We Are

In the fall of 2003 John Struble and Sarah McEneaney attend a presentation by Joshua David , co founder of Friends of the High Line at The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS). Earlier that day Struble and McEneaney had walked the viaduct with David and staff of PHS. Inspired by the grass roots efforts of The Friends of the High Line John Struble and Sarah McEneaney decide to form a non-profit group dedicated to the preservation and adaptive reuse of the abandonded Reading Viaduct.

The advocacy group is founded in December 2003. We currently have a voluteer Board and over 200 supporters/subscribers from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Kyle Gradinger is an urban planner and transportation planner with Wallace Roberts and Todd in Philadelphia. He is also a board member and advocacy chair of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. As a Master’s candidate at the University of Pennsylvania in 2004, Kyle conceived and conducted a student charrette to examine the potential reuse of the Reading Viaduct.

Amy Hooper is an Associate Director of Student Financial Services at Temple University. Raised in Philadelphia , she has been a resident of Callowhilll neighborhood since 1991. Committed to community work, Amy is a founding member and President of Callowhill Neighborhood Association.

Sarah McEneaney is an artist who has lived in Philadelphia since 1973 and in the Callowhill neighborhood for 29 years. She is a founding member of Callowhill Neighborhood Association and the Reading Viaduct Project. Sarah also currently serves on the Boards of Vox Populi Gallery and The Institute of Contemporay Art, University of Pennsylvania.

 

Paul McIntyre is an attorney with the law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, where he concentrates his practice on the environmental aspects of real estate transactions and development. Paul grew up in the greater Philadelphia area and returned to live and work in the City afte completing law school in Vermont in 2001. He and his family h ave been residents of the City since then, and currently reside in the Mount Airy neighborhood. Ellen Somekawa is the Executive Director of Asian Americans United. Ellen is one of the founders of the Folk Arts–Cultural Treasures Charter School which is located at 11th and Callowhill Streets.

John Struble is a furniture maker who has lived in Philadelphia since 1997. He is a founding member of Callowhill Neighborhood Association and the Reading Viaduct Project. John exhibits regularly in the annual Philadelphia Furniture and Furnishings Show. Debra Ward is a Finance Manager for Urban Outfitters, Inc. and has lived in Philadelphia since 2000. She also serves on the board of Vox Populi Gallery where her duties include the finances for the non-profit gallery. Debra is an avid arts supporter and collector of local Philadelphia artists.
